Co-Founders | Agreeable & Co.
We just wanted to write out a post about what Agreeable & Co. is to us, how we run and operate it, and why we feel it’s important to maintain it and promote the message of conscious consumption.
Happy to hear your thoughts in the comments. 🙂
A Sharing Site for Sustainable & Ethical Brands & Products. A Collaborative Platform for Conscious People.
A Sharing Site for Sustainable & Ethical Brands & Products. A Collaborative Platform for Conscious People. Agreeable & Co. is a site where sustainable and ethical brands can share their products & where conscious consumers can collaborate, learn & share. Agreeable & Co. is a site where sustainable and ethical brands can share their products & where conscious consumers can collaborate, learn & share.
The What, How & Why of Agreeable & Co.
A Simple List
The What.
Agreeable & Co. is…
a site for sharing. We want the impassioned and interested community to share brands and products truly worth talking about and supporting.
a platform to be social. We feel it’s important for those that desire meaningful changes in the way we consume to have a space to express and share their opinions, goals, products and craftsmanship.
a space for meaningful collaboration. We know that in order to truly change the way we as a collective ‘people’ consume, we must collaborate and cooperate. Conscious consumers, mindful lifestyle bloggers, talented artisans, and responsible brand executives must work together if the desired goal is positive change.
a tool to educate. Conscious consumption requires one to be ‘conscious’ – to be aware of how a product was made; what a product is made of; how a certain brand operates; how a brand feels about a given topic; and how you, as a consumer, can work within the marketplace to benefit you, the people you care about, and the planet as a whole.
a resource for new developments. We see value in research, and try to share new and important research going on in a number of fields (e.g., sustainability, climate change, health and nutrition, fashion, the arts, technology, and much more). On every product category page, we’ve added a fun-fact that reflects a piece of relevant research to supplement the shopping the experience.
an outlet for action. On Agreeable & Co., you are not only given a mission for positive change, but are also provided with a channel to funnel your actions and beliefs, and to engender the new and needed norm of conscious consumption and a marketplace defined by conscious consumerism.
a curated marketplace to explore and discover. Overall, we want Agreeable & Co. to be a marketplace of quality, where you can discover, share and talk about socially-responsible, healthy, sustainable, well-designed, ethically-made, and vegan-friendly products; where you and the interested community can discover new, meaningfully innovative, and conscious brands to buy from, share and support.
The How.
We…
use our twin powers of telepathy to… just kidding.
curate the internet and hand-select brands and products that meet our six-part criteria.
research the brands and products we select through conducting interviews, investigating product contents and labels, exploring the mission and claims made on a given brand’s website, and by crosschecking standards set by third-party seals and certifications.
add these products to our community of brands and products for you to discover and enjoy.
craft kits with reviewed and rated products to simplifying your shopping experience.
You…
also have an integral part. We invite, nay, encourage, you to take part and make kits with your favorite products made by conscious brands. This kind of change requires a collective effort.
And conscious brands…
we encourage you too, to share your mission and products with the community. It’s you that provides an example of how a business should operate, and it’s you that gives us as consumers something to support, share and feel good about buying and having in our lives.
The Why.
Because…
dare we say…you, your family, your friends, your neighbors, those people you see everyday and those you don’t that you still coexist with on this sphere we call Earth, and of course those cute animals that flood your Facebook and Twitter, are all deserving of respect, compassion and love. Yes, it may seem or sound flowery, or perhaps highfalutin and overly sentimental, but it’s not. It’s the truth. The raw truth.
How does this relate to conscious consumerism?
In the words of Anne Lappe’, “Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world you want.” Your health and well-being is linked to what you consume; the people that make the products you use everyday are impacted by your purchasing behaviors; and the plants and animals that occupy this planet are so intimately affected by the decisions that you and everyone else make. Choice is power. You can choose to use that power to engender good in society and the world at large – or you can choose not to. But, never forget, you absolutely have a choice, and that choice has good and bad consequences.
Of course, this is a bit of a simplification of the issue, and perhaps you’re thinking it implies some erroneous things about our political and economic systems, but, and this is an important “but”, even if it may not be entirely accurate, it’s still an understanding that has great potential to catalyze real, remarkable, and ever so needed change.
Phew, it feels good to get that out.
Your Turn.
Pick one.
Have a question? I’ll answer.
