Why I Like This

Everyone has a few go-to, simple black t-shirts. This is one that I like to wear and share. It’s made by an ethical clothing brand that abides by fair trade and fair wage practice. This top is also made of incredibly soft organic cotton. It’s a sustainable alternative to conventional cotton.

Why I Like This

Verdalina is a new ethical fashion shop that started in 2013. It’s based out of Richmond, Virginia and prides itself on being one of the first ‘slow-fashion’ brands in the city. In addition to supporting fair trade practices, they also use organically grown and environmentally friendly textiles for many of their pieces.

I love the look and feel of this Jumpsuit. It has clean lines, with a minimalist design touch.

Why I Like This

I’ve been making an effort recently to buy vegan shoes (i.e., shoes without animal products, like leather, wool, fur, etc.). I think it’s important, especially now and into the future, to move away from using animal products in fashion. Generally speaking, animal-free fashion tends to be more ethical and sustainable.

I’m sure you’ve head of TOMS before. I love them! TOMS prides themselves on their social responsibility programs and philanthropy. They have several programs that provide help for those in need.

These simple, black canvas slip-ons are another go-to fashion item for me. Soft, lightweight and well designed.

Another vegan shoe, slip-on option are these canvas shoes. They’re similar to the one’s above, but have a bit more a modern cut and line to them. Always nice to have options!

EcoVibe Apparel is making waves in the world of ethical and sustainable fashion! EcoVibe Apparel is powered on 100% renewable energy and is a member of 1% For The Planet (an organization where partnered brands give 1% of sales annually to nonprofit organizations across the globe helping to save land, protect forests, rivers and oceans, make agricultural and energy production more sustainable, getting toxics out of the environment, plastics out of the oceans and more).

These simple black jeans fit well and are still going strong.

Why I Like This

Another option are these skinny black jeans by Levi’s. Levi’s are always on my list when I’m looking for a good pair of jeans. Many people don’t know, but Levi’s announced a sustainability plan recently to move towards energy and water conservation strategies in their facilities.

Why I Like This

Baggu was recommended to me by a friend. Their bags are lightweight, durable, and have a simple, minimalist aesthetic to them. This backpack in particular is made from 100% recycled cotton. If you don’t like the black color, they have this style bag in several colors and patterns.

Why I Like This

I was very happy to find this necklace on Etsy. I hand’t heard of vegetable ivory and Tagua Nut before looking at this necklace. It’s a fascinating building material. According to the artisan, “Tagua, also known as vegetable ivory, is sustainably harvested in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador. It shares many properties with elephant ivory: its very strong, light and takes a beautiful polish.”

On her page, the artisan also points out that this necklace is “made to our standards of Fair Trade, provides a sustainable income for our team in Ecuador, and only the highest quality, organic components.”

Personally, I love the clean and geometric aesthetic.

Why I Like This

To finish the up the look, I thought I’d add a minimalist design circle scarf. This one is perfect for fall and winter climates, and made is of recycled polyester and organic cotton.
