Did you know?

In my experience, it’s rather difficult to find eco-friendly rugs. Similarly, oftentimes rugs aren’t even part of the “green” dialogue. So, let’s take a look at Hook and Loom, for example, and see how and why their rugs are a relatively more responsible choice. 1. They refuse to use dyes, which produce waste-water; 2. They don’t use chemicals (i.e., pesticides and harsh detergents); 3. Fair employment values are expressly communicated to be a part of their business model. Read their efforts for yourself.

Did you know?

Here’s a simple fact: natural, un-dyed wood materials are biodegradable. Wow, crazy… Why is this important? Home decor is often made of petroleum-based plastics like PET, which don’t decompose the same way organic materials do. According to a study by the National Institute of Health and EPA, plastic, depending on the kind, takes anywhere between 400 and 1,00 years to naturally decompose. Wood, on the other hand, is an organic material, which means bacteria are able to break it down — depending on the type of wood, it takes between 1 to 5 years for wood to biodegrade. Opt for wood. Be kind to the land.
