To our knowledge, the fashion brand, Indigenous Clothing is one of the top ethical fashion brands, not only utilizing sustainable textiles like organic cotton, but practicing ethical sourcing through thoroughly incorporating the work of Fair Trade artisans into their business model. Indigenous Clothing also prides themselves on brand transparency. According to their site, “[they] maintain relationships that are fair, consistent, and respectful with both producers and customers, [and] show consideration for producers by sharing information about the entire supply chain through proactive communication.”

This particular scarf is hand-knitted, made with organic cotton and eco friendly, low impact dyes. It has a cool, unique stitch and will keep you warm and comfy during the winter and fall months.

Literally one of the comfiest scarves you’ll ever own. This chunky scarf is hand-knitted with merino wool, perfect for cold winter months. The textile is 100% Australian Merino wool yarn, and is crafted by a USA-based artisan in Florida.

This scarf works for both women and men, and features a simple, modern black print. The print was done by hand, and the fabric is 100% organic cotton. It’s an especially fitting piece of fashion for a city like New York — we love our grey scale fashion over here. Consequently, the maker is based in Brooklyn, New York.

We like the corded / braided knit of this scarf. It’s also a solid choice for a fall and winter scarf, made of 100% eco friendly viscose. We couldn’t find much on the make or artisan, but we enjoy the design. If you find anything on this brand, let us know in the comments.

Why We Like This

We’ve featured this maker, MacBeanie, on Agreeable & Co. before. She’s an artisan based in California who makes hand-kitted apparel with eco friendly bamboo acrylic and merino wool.

This particular scarf is hand knit from a blend of merino wool and bamboo acrylic, and features a fashionable coconut button. It comes in a number of different colors, but we like the red hue for the fall and winter months.

Why We Like This

Norfolk Fair Trade Co. is a new brand we found that crafts scarves, home goods, and jewelry, while emphasizing ethical and fair sourcing and production. Their mission is centered around the principles of the Fair Trade Federation. According to the Norfolk Fair Trade Co. site, “The core of fair trade is that the artisan is the center of our mission, decisions we make are always driven by the best interests of the artisans. We work with artisans as partners trying to involve artisan partners in decisions that effect them. We work cooperatively to set prices and ensure that the price the artisans set is enough to enable them to develop a sustainable future that improves their lives. We always offer an advance to finance orders and pay balances immediately on competition. We work cooperatively to resolve any quality of production issues and never use our buying power in a way that disadvantages producers.”

Why We Like This

Last, but certainly not least, this is another winter scarf by Indigenous Clothing, but this one features the helpful addition of a pocket on the end to warm your hands. It’s crafted with 80% alpaca and 20% wool, and is dyed using eco friendly, low impact dyes. It’s soft, super warm, and very comfortable.
