We got a question earlier this week asking how and what the best way to save water in your home is — so naturally we felt the need to make a kit with the best water saving products. 🙂
In selecting these products, we looked for a couple things:
1. We wanted to make sure whatever water saving products we selected were easy to use, and easy to install in your home and bathroom (i.e., not requiring a plumber).
2. We also tried to make sure that these products provided multiple water saving options, whether it was a low flow shower head or faucet head.
3. And of course, we wanted these products to be useful and universally applicable! That is, that anyone could just get one of these water saving devices and use it in their home.
With this, enjoy our selections! Hopefully, you’ll save money, while you save some water. We think you will!

BEST NEW ECO TECH
Two Pack of Low Flow 1.5 GPM WaterSense Standard Faucet Aerators (Water Saving Faucet Heads)
By: AM Conservation Group, Inc.
A Conscious Alternative
Here’s a fun fact for you: Federal Plumbing Standards now specify that kitchen faucets use no more than 2.5 gallons per minute (GPM) and that bathroom faucets use no more than 2.2 GPM. Although this is better than the old standard of 5 GMP, it’s still not great. In truth, you don’t need that much water while you’re washing your hands, cleaning your dishes, etc. This water saving faucet adapter by Conservation Group is highly efficient, using 1.5 gallons of water per minute through aerating the water stream and increasing spray velocity. It’ll work with your kitchen or bathroom faucet. Here’s a video that shows you how to install it:
Tri-Max 0.5/1.0/1.5 GPM Low Flow Shower Head (Optimal Task Performance, Maximum Water Savings)
By: Niagara Conservation
A Conscious Alternative
Here’s another fun fact for you (we’re full of em’): according to an EPA report, “The average American shower uses 17.2 gallons of water (65.1 liters) and lasts for 8.2 minutes at an average flow rate of 2.1 gallons per minute (GPM).” Once again, you don’t need that much water! This shower head is one of the only ones we could find that has three water saving options and flow rates: 0.5 GPM / 1.0 GPM / 1.5 GPM. If you’re super into conserving water, you can use as little as .5 gallons of water per minute with this shower head.
1.5 GPM High Efficiency Low Flow Shower Head (USA-Made) – WaterSense Certified Water Saving
By: High Sierra Showerheads
A Conscious Alternative
This is another low flow shower head option in case you didn’t like the design of the one above. This one is Water Sense certified and saves water at a flow rate of 1.5 GPM. According to High Sierra Showerheads, you’ll save “40% or more water and the energy to heat the water.” We also found a video (below) that illustrates how to install this model.
A Conscious Alternative
This product is slightly distinct from the other products in this kit, as this one helps to engender a behavioral change. In brief, this is a super easy to use shower timer. You just tap one of the timing options right when you get in the shower (1 minute to 10 minutes), and it’ll alert you when that time is up and you should get out. We could all use a little reminder at times.
Toilet Tank Bank Water Conserving Tank Insert (3 Pack) – Maintenance-Free, Simply Water Saving Insert
By: Toilet Tank Bank
A Conscious Alternative
Lovely picture isn’t it? (Apologizes we couldn’t find a better one.) Anyhow, this nifty device helps to trick your toilette tank into thinking there’s more water in the tank than there really is. Without going into too much detail about how a toilette works, in placing a weighted object in your tank, the water level will reach the mechanism at the top of the tank faster, so it’ll tell that tank to stop filling with water…saving you water. You just fill up this bag with water and attach it as seen in the photo. If you’re more interested, here’s a video on how toilets work. It’s Oscar worthy.
Self-Watering Planter w/ Water Level Indicator + Fiber Soil (Water Saving Foolproof Indoor Garden Plant Pot)
By: Window Garden
A Conscious Alternative
This is a neat innovation in home gardening and planting. This is a plant pot that let’s you know when there’s enough water in your plant pot, saving your plant from being over-watered and saving you water. There’s also a helpful water level indicator that lets you know how much water your plant needs, and, essentially, self-waters your plant through connecting with a device at the bottom of the planer. Click through to look at the diagram and learn more.

This image does a good job at showing what this product does — it’s basically like a smart power strip for your hose. It’ll funnel water streaming in from the central valve into four separate openings. Each opening also has a pressure switch on it, which you can easily adjust. You can also now have two or more people using a single water valve, which saves money, time, and water.
